Grand Knight's Report

3/8/2012

Congratulations and I Welcome to our New Knights.

Especially those Brother Knights who recruited these new

Knights. I WOULD LIKE TO RECOGNIZE THEM.

My congrats to the Fish Dinner Committee headed by Brother

Jerry Trojan.

It was a great dinner as I can personally attest to.

Brother Knights we need your support, there are two more dinners

planned, lets attend and show what it means to be a knight.

Last month we started the "Forty Cans for Forty Nights Program"

To date we have collected approximately 40 LBSs of canned goods.

Supreme has requested I remind our council our Insurance Program

Needs your support. As Brother Knights support is by participating in the various programs available to us.

There are two Relics Displays scheduled for this month.

Mesquite on the 16th of March to the 19th Display depicts the

Passion of Christ.

The second Relics Display will be at Kuzy Hall on the 22nd of March 7PM; this display will have 150 Relics of The Saints.

As requested by Supreme our order will commemorate the anniversary of our founding and further commemorate

Father McGivney’s Canonization by celebrating a Mass in his honored on our Founding date March 29, 2012.

3/2/2012

Spearheaded by Steve Whitlock, in the Dixie 150th birthday celebration, the Pro-Life demonstration organized by John Haydukovich outside of Planned Parenthood, a First Degree Exemplification headed by Gene Trombetti, and the Italian Night fundraiser chaired by Jerry Trojan. Special thanks went to Jim McGeehan and Rich Rivera for managing the bar, Don Rowe for providing live music, Pat Bondad for rounding up several youth group members to help out, and Gary and Julie Stolz for organizing the clean up.

Financial Secretary’s Report (Dave Arndt).

The Italian Night fundraiser grossed $3458 from the cash draw, bar, and sales of 250 tickets.  Expenses were $1203.40 netting us a profit of $2254.60.  On the subject of items budgeted, Dave reported that we have been assigned to help support a new seminarian in the Assumption Seminary in San Antonio.  Another budget item is our support of fellow Knight Chris Amateis in his FOCUS (Fellowship of Catholic University Students) ministry.  Because Chris will be leaving FOCUS, Dave raised the question as to whether to continue our support to the organization.  After some discussion, it was decided that we would continue support, earmarking our contribution to supporting campus missionaries.  The State Convention will be May 4-6, and Dave announced that any business owners wishing to place an ad in the convention program should see him.  The Special Olympics will be held in Cedar City this summer, and Dave sought a motion whether to contribute $250.  In the discussion, it was pointed out that we had supported Special Olympics when it was a local event and that our focus has been primarily to support local causes.  The item was therefore tabled.  Dave also reported that he can provide more information on a scholarship program available to Knights and their dependents.

Chancellor’s Report (George D’Apuzzo).  George announced the first reading for Kenneth Baker.

Field Agent’s Report (Paul DiVico).  Paul summarized the insurance benefits of being a Knight and encouraged using those benefits as a recruiting tool.  He reminded the group that he is available both to the insured as well as the associate members to offer his assistance at no fee in matters related to wills, funeral arrangements, filing insurance claims, and filing for government benefits.

District Deputy’s Report (Gene Trombetti).   Gene reported that Bishop Wester has drafted a letter in support of the Knights to be read at all masses in which he identifies himself as a member.  We are planning to have Knights available to talk to prospective members after mass.

Lector’s Report (John Soucy).  John said that the Catholic Church is often accused of being anti-science-- the trial of Galileo being frequently cited.  He distributed an article that details the history of the Galileo controversy and refutes many the falsehoods propagated against the Church.  John also recommended two related books:  Seven Lies about Catholic History by Diane Moczar and Catholic Controversies by Stephen Gabriel.

Council Committee Reports

Membership Committee (Rich Rivera).  The committee will meet in the next few weeks to plan the membership drive and a retention strategy.  Grand Knight Mark asked about any progress on starting a Hispanic Round Table that had been formerly discussed.  This led into a discussion of how cultural perceptions of the Knights have limited Hispanic membership.  Paul DiVico commented that, based on his experience, success in attracting active Hispanic members can only be achieved through inclusion and assimilation rather than encouraging separate groups.  Rich commented that he will try to get Fr. Martin’s help in reaching out to the Hispanic community.

Church Director (Cy Curran).  Cy asked that the hours that need to be covered for Fourth Friday Adoration be communicated through our voicemail alerting system.   John Soucy suggested that when we sign up hours of adoration, we ought to identify ourselves as Knights by writing “K of C” after our names and Cy thought that it would be nice to document the total number of hours of adoration accumulated by the Knights during the year.  Cy also asked for approval of the prototype handbook that he presented at the last meeting.  Grand Knight Mark said that it was approved from his perspective.  Gene Trombetti suggested that the whole council review the handbook prior to printing many copies and Cy said that he will investigate how best to distribute it electronically.

Community Director (George D’Apuzzo).  George reported that we are waiting to hear from the Highway Department about the annual cleanup.  Rich Rivera said that he will be working out a schedule for soup kitchen volunteers.

Council Director (Abe King).  Abe is maintaining a list of all of our activities with names of the volunteers.  He passed around a signup sheet for the fish dinners scheduled for Feb. 24 and March 9 and 23, and for the May 4 “Cinco de Mayo” event.  The golf tournament has been tabled, and the Luau has been moved and will be the final event of our calendar year.  Russ Ostler requested that any submissions to the K of C section of the church website pass through him to be put in a standard format.

Family Director (Ron Finnerty).  Ron requested that he be notified if any members become aware of a Knights or widows in distress or that may require other assistance.

Pro Life Director (John Soucy).  John said that he will check into a possible parish pro-life activity in March.  There are currently no new activities scheduled.
