The Lector
Eucharistic Ministers, Lectors

The Lector or Reader is the link between God, God's word, and the Parish at each celebration. The reader has a unique calling: to clearly and completely interpret the print on the page for the audience, and to read respectfully and with meaning, the word of the Lord.
1. Read the selection in advance. Be well prepared by reading the passage out loud several days before you are scheduled.
2. Fully understand the passage
- Mechanical: Understand the passage and the correct pronunciation of the words.
- Meaning: Meaning of individual words and the entire reading.
3. The three literary forms of the scriptures: The Story, The Letter, and Poetry.
- Stories: stories are to be read like a storyteller
- Letter: letters instruct listener in their faith or encourage the to be better Christians.
- Poetry: poetry is rhythmic. It comes to life as we read it. We are reading ideas that flow with a beat. Read the selection several times to get the rhythm. It is like music and the proper reading will provide easier listening by the parishioners.
